Jani Taskinen participated in the Quantum Sensing autumn school organized by DRD5 (Detector R&D Collaboration 5), which is a CERN-based international collaboration focusing on the development of quantum sensing for particle physics.
The school was hosted at CERN Switzerland, allowing participants to visit the numerous on-site laboratories in between lectures for hands-on experience on various measurement setups, including high vacuum systems, particle detector assemblies and cryogenic refrigerators.
The topics covered in the lectures included the general goals and future aspects of particle detection as well as introductions to different applications related to the physics of sensing, including atomic clocks, calorimeters, spin sensors and superconducting electronics.
Besides touching many topics highly relevant for JOGATE, including cryogenics and superconductivity, the school provided a setting for young researchers to gain an overview of the fields surrounding quantum sensing, exchange ideas, and broaden their professional networks.
